Giving Mac's Whirl a whirl!

If you're a make up lover then I can pretty much guarantee that you've seen Mac's Whirl talked about at least 50 times already but I thought I'd get my opinion out there. These days before I buy a product I tend to read a tonne of reviews so I like to be helpful and write some of my own for you lovely people.

The shade Whirl is available in lip pencil and lipstick form, even though they have the same name I wouldn't agree that they're actually the same colour as each other, similar yes but not the same. The lip pencil is where it all began and this has the typical formula of Mac lip pencils- long wearing, smooth and pigmented. It's a brown toned pink but in my opinion it leans more on the brown side so if you're looking for that 90's inspired lip colour then this is a good pick. The good thing about this pencil is that you could completely fill in your lips with it and you wouldn't really then need a lippie on top as it looks great as it is.

When the lipstick of the same name was released there was a lot of excitement about it as the lip liner had been SO popular, thanks to Kylie Jenner. It took me a while to track one down but of course I did eventually! When a girl wants a lipstick there ain't much stopping her. The lipstick is still a very warm toned brown but it has much more pink in it which I think makes it more wearable. Having said that it is quite dark so I find I have to be in the mood for this but when I am I absolutely love it. The formula is 'Matte' so to avoid this drying my lips out I use a lip scrub and then let some lip balm sink into my lips. The good news is that this formula stays put well and doesn't need reapplication every 2 minutes which is a right pain in the.....

Now, the big question for me when finding this was 'Is the colour going to suit me?!', the shop I got it in didn't have a tester so, me being me, just decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. I left it rattling around in my collection for several weeks before I really started to wear it, I just wasnt sure I could get away with it. However, after playing round with it a bit I found how to make it work. I tend to use the lipliner and lipstick together, with the lipliner acting as a base on the lips rather than just around the edges. I'll then create a brown toned, soft look for my eyeshadow as I find this brings out the brown in my eyes and matches the lip colour well.

Overall, Whirl is growing on me more and more each time I use it. For me I do get more wear out of the pencil as you can pair it with so many other lipsticks to give them a bit more of that brown colour but I would also recommend the lipstick if you really want to embrace THE lip colour of the moment. If you wanted a colour less intense I'd say to look into something like Velvet Teddy or Kinda Sexy which still have that same vibe but are less 'hello I'm wearing a brown lipstick' if you get me?

I'd love to hear what you think of Whirl so please leave me a comment :)
