My night out must haves

With January a distant blur my social life has been on the increase and I've even had a few occassions to get glammed up and go all out with my make up. Whilst I often switch up the products I use on a night out reguarly I noticed that there are some I always use (in fact some of them I keep to one side specifically for special occasions and nights out so I feel that extra bit special), these are tried and tested beauts that wont let me down whilst I'm preoccupied with a cocktail or two.....

There are two foundations I flit between on nights out and I wanted to talk about them both as I'm really not loyal to one over the other. The first is the Kat Von D Lock It Foundation, the best way I can think to describe this is like the Mac Studio Fix Fluid's big brother. This foundation is not for the faint hearted, its full on coverage and as the name would suggest really locks onto the skin. I will admit this took a bit of getting used to and applying too much can give a cakey effect but once I'd had a few attempts and working out it applied best with a Beauty Blender? Well, I was sold. If you are going to be dancing around like a loon and working up a sweat then this will not let you down.

For a slightly less full on foundation I will opt for the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation which is a long time favourite of mine (and on my repurchase list as I'm down to the last few drops of my current bottle). This still gives a decent amount of coverage but the finish is slightly more glowy and natural in appearance, also it photographs beautifully.

Now, lets talk contouring. I'm not a massive contourer day to day and tend to stick to my Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Brozne and Glow for a little cheek definition but when I'm getting glammed up I bring the big guns out. First up I use the Anastasia Beverly Hills Pro Series Contour Cream Kit in Fair and blend the shades in again with a Beauty Blender, this formula is seriously pigmented so only a small amount is needed. They blend out seamlessly on the skin and leaves a natural looking 'shadow'.

The Kat Von D Shade And Light Palette has got to be one of the most famous contour palettes hasn't it? I have to admit that the two shades on the right are too dark for me so they get neglected which is a shame. The lighter two contour shades however I can make use of, I use these to set the cream contour I have already applied and love the extra definition it creates. Levitation and Lyric are the two 'light' shades I use to set other areas of the face such as under eyes and around my nose.

Once I'm all contoured up then of course I go back in with my highlight, one I always come back to is  Becca X Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop. This highlight is an intense gold toned colour and one that I am normally guilty of over applying but who cares? If you can't go OTT with your highlight on a girls night out then when can you? Seriously though this is a beautiful shade that has the smoothest formula and just glides on.

The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette is an oldie but a goodie and a product I have come to love and trust over the years. I've gone on about this loads previously, the shadows are pigmented, blend easily and have amazing longevity. Typically on a night out I'll go in with the matte brown shades to add definition to the crease. The Max Fix Plus then comes in as I will spritz this on a flat shader brush and apply the shimmery shades to the eyelid, this gives them a wet, metallic appearance. The range of colours in here mean you can create endless glamorous looks so this is an absolute essential for me.

I'll also finish my make up with a further spritzing of Mac Fix Plus, it helps to further set your make up but what I like it most for is the finish is gives. If you are suffering with a little bit of a powdery look then this gets rid of all that, it helps the make up to blend together better and appear more natural, well as natural as you can look after applying all that anyway!

What products do you depend on for a night out?

  1. Sounds like a gorgeous look! I really enjoy the Shade + Light contour palette and thankfully I can get away with any shade but I'm not such a huge fan of the highlighting powders xxx
